Play Space Invaders
The Space Invaders arrived in 1978, and brought with them a whole culture. The characters are as iconic as Pac-Man, and the gameplay has shaped shoot-'em'-ups ever since. Below, you can play an unofficial clone of Space Invaders, in tribute to the original.
Space Invaders Extreme for the Nintendo DS
If you have a Nintendo DS, I recommend you get Space Invaders Extreme (Nintendo DS). It carries the spirit of the original game, but modernises it. The pace is frenetic, and the level design is more like Arkanoid, with different shape formations and power-ups. There is a two-player mode using wi-fi, where shooting the ship at the top of the screen sends extra aliens to your opponent's screen. The shooting sounds are incorporated into the dance music soundtrack seamlessly, and there's support for a rumble pack if you have one (although it just pulses in time with the music). If you like a good retro shoot-'em'-up, the DS remake is perfect for a quick blast. And then another, and another...
There is also a version of Space Invaders Extreme for the PSP, which I haven't had a chance to play yet.
Put Space Invaders on your wall
To decorate your room with the ultimate symbols of retro gaming, you need the self-adhesive Space Invaders decals. These stickers can be applied to smooth surfaces (like doors and floors). Each sticker pack includes a set of invaders and a defender ship, together with bullets so they can fire at each other.
