Marketleap has designed this link popularity tool to help those interested in search engine optimisation (or search engine optimization as the Americans call it) and other online marketers to not only find out who is linking to their websites, but to also run a benchmarking report to show where they stand in comparison to competitors and other major online players.

Having links to your website is important because:

• It provides a source of visitors independent of search engines
• Google (and other search engines that use Google's results) works out how popular your site is by how many links go to it
• Google also uses the link text to help work out how highly your site should be ranked for certain keywords
