12 Angry Aliens - 3D Scratch game

Discover the 3D anaglyph action game from Cool Scratch Projects in Easy Steps by Sean McManus

About this project

This Scratch project uses the special 3D glasses provided with the print edition of the book (or available cheaply online - search for "anaglyph glasses" and get the red/cyan ones). In the game, you shoot at aliens that rush towards you and appear to get nearer and even pop out of the screen.

3D demo

Because of limitations in the printing process, the 3D effect doesn't work with the book images and only works on the screen. Below is an example you can view through your glasses to see the 3D effect in action. The cat on the left appears to be behind the bat and 3D caption. The cat on the right appears to be in front. The middle cat, where the red and cyan images are perfectly aligned, is at the same distance as the bat.

Download the graphics

The book Cool Scratch Projects in Easy Steps shows you how to make all the images you need for this project. The best way to make the game is to make your own graphics. If you find it too difficult, you can download my graphics below.

To download an image, right-click it to open the image and then save it to your computer. To add a saved image to a Scratch project, click the folder icon above the Sprite List.

If you share any projects using these images or other book content, please give credit to Cool Scratch Projects in Easy Steps. Thank you.

Bonus images

Here's a different alien you could use. As long as you keep the red and cyan costumes in sync, you could make each alien that emerges a different shape.

I made these sea monster images for an early version of this game, when it was set at sea and you were firing arrows. It didn't work as well as the game that's in the book, but perhaps you can make something with them?
