About this photo
This photo shows Uluru, a huge sandstone rock in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It is also known as Ayers Rock. We flew in to Ayers Rock Airport (also known as Connellan Airport) and as you fly over the desert-like bush area, Uluru can be clearly seen standing out in contrast with the flat landscape all around it. Tourists are asked not to climb Uluru out of respect for the Anangu, the traditional landowners of Uluru, who believe the rock has spritual significance and so do not climb it themselves.
