About this photo
Bush fires are a huge problem in Australia, and extremely difficult to control. We saw this road sign in the Northern Territory, on the drive from Darwin to Kakadu, warning against bush fires with the humorous slogan: "We like our lizards frilled NOT grilled". We didn't see any fires in the northern territory, but when we were at Uluru, the road to Kata Tjuta was closed because of bush fires, and we could see pillars of smoke on the horizon. They use managed burning to isolate areas of bush to prevent fire spreading if it breaks out later, and we saw burnt out patches of bush as we drove around Australia.
