Photo of the Hall of Water (Shui Dian) in China

The Palace of Prolonging Happiness (Yan Xi Gong) in the Forbidden City was built in 1420, rebuilt in 1686 and destroyed by fire in 1845. In 1909, work began on building the Hall of Water (Shui Dian) on the original site of the palace, but construction was not completed before the Qing dynasty fell.
