About this photo
Lyme Regis is a great holiday destination for fossil hunters. I was surprised to see this large ammonite left on the beach, until I tried to lift it: it would take a team effort and a stretcher of some kind to shift it any distance. Fossils of this size are sometimes found in Lyme Regis, but you're more likely to find some small fossils, especially belemnites, which are shaped like bullets, and some smaller ammonites. Lyme Regis is part of the Jurassic Coast.
