About this photo
The Thames Barrier, shown in this photo, is an iconic landmark of London and was opened in 1982 to protect London from exceptionally high tides from the North Sea. The Thames Barrier featured briefly in the short film Isles of Wonder, which followed the path of the Thames from its source to the Olympic Stadium, and which kickstarted the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.
