About this photo
Torre Del Oro in Seville, the Tower of Gold, was part of the city defences. There was a matching tower on the other river bank previously, and a chain would be strung between them to stop ships from sailing through without permission. The tower was built in 1220, and it's possible to climb to the top for a view along the river and towards the city.
