Photo of the Kiss on the Berlin Wall
|13 of 24|
The East Side Gallery, showing one of the most famous artworks on the Berlin Wall, which has been restored. This shows soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev (left) and East German president Erich Honecker (right) exchanging a brotherly kiss in 1979, a socialist ritual. The painting by Dimitri Vrubel, a Russian artist, was based on a photograph by Régis Bossu, a French freelance photographer. The caption underneath says: "God help me to survive this deadly love affair!" This painting is known as The Fraternal Kiss, The Brotherly Kiss, or just The Kiss.
