Photo of the Weisse Kreuze (white crosses) memorial in Berlin in Berlin, Germany

These white crosses are a memorial to those who died trying to escape from the GDR (East Berlin) to West Berlin. The right-most photo commemorates the falling of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989. I took this photo on a visit to Berlin around 1997.
