Photo of the statue of King Charles I, London

This statue of King Charles I is often overlooked (and not just by Lord Nelson on his column in the background here), but it's an important one: it marks the spot where distances to London are measured from. When a road sign says it's 30 miles to London, it's 30 miles to this statue of Charles I. It stands where the original Queen Eleanor's Cross stood, and there is a replica of that now in front of Charing Cross station.
