Sean's Virtual Webcam

This Javascript toy dates back to a time when webcams were really cool (around 1998), and gave people an insight into other lives long before social media took off. Back then, webcams would update infrequently, every minute or so, and would often be black and white. So it was fairly easy to give people the webcam experience without actually needing to have a webcam...

This Javascript toy shows a sequence of photos of me at work, creating the illusion of a webcam. Although I called it a "virtual webcam", I didn't actually explain how it worked back then, so some people thought it was a live feed and were puzzled that I was always at my desk. The photos are a bit old now, and I don't live in the same place any more. And they're rather small, because screen resolutions were so much smaller back then. But it's a fun diversion, and it reminds me of the early days of the web.
