About this photo
Grote Markt, or the Great Market Square, is in the middle of the old city quarter of Antwerp, and features the striking Guidhalls with gold ornaments. In this photo you can see the Brabo fountain, which portrays the local legend of a young man who cuts off a giant's hand and throws it into the river. The town is said to be named after the legend, with Antwerp being a distorted form of the words 'hand' and 'throw'.
