About this photo
This statue of Sir Stamford Raffles stands at the Raffles' Landing Site in Singapore, where it is believed he arrived in 1819. The plaque here says that he "with genius and perception changed the destiny of Singapore from an obscure fishing village to a great seaport and modern metropolis". Behind the statue, on the other side of the river, stand skyscrapers, including One Raffles Place.
