Photo of the Hall of Supreme Harmony in China

The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum (Gudong), was completed in 1420 and was the seat of power for 24 emperors over a period of nearly 500 years until 1912. For all that time, only the emperors and their court and visitors saw inside. It was opened to the public in 1949. The Hall of Supreme Harmony, shown here, is the largest hall in the palace.
